There is exciting news to share with all fans of the Betsy-Tacy books. The Maud Hart Lovelace Society is proud to announce the publication of the Betsy-Tacy Songbook, compiled by Kathy Baxter, Barbara Carter, and Jennifer Marshall. This project has been 25+ years in the making.
It all began in 1984 when Kathy and Barbara shared photocopied songs from the books. As the collection grew, it became apparent that Maud used actual songs to describe the music interests of people in the early 1900s, so the collecting intensified. When original copies were discovered at flea markets, garage sales, and later on eBay, the dream of creating an actual songbook of the original sheet music took form.
There are over 200 references to music in Maud’s books The songs chosen for the book are a combination of old standards as well as tunes that are not well known but are important to the stories in the books.
The Betsy-Tacy Songbook measures 8.5 by 11”, has beautiful colored
covers both front and back (as shown) below with good quality paper
throughout. The colorful green spiral binder allows the book to lie flat for
ease of use. It sells for $30 which includes tax and shipping and makes a
wonderful companion to the Betsy-Tacy books. In addition to the songs,
the book is organized chronologically by the books in which the songs
appear, and there are wonderful descriptions of how the music is used
and where to find it in the books, as well as information about the
composers and lyricists.
